I read texts pretty infrequently and then stopped. I’ll tell you this, if you want to see your kids in the worst light possible, believe they and their friends are complete jerks, and go into a deep funk thinking that with that kind of talk, they are doomed, then read their texts. Personally I couldn’t take it anymore. I guess I was/am taking a risk, but I mostly took the route of conversations and cautionary tales instead. If I could do it all over again I wish I had never read their texts at all.
You need to do a little bit of reading before you approach your mother again about this, and do it quickly. Read about boundaries, because it will be critical to having a healthy relationship with your mother. In fact, all healthy relationships need and respect boundaries.
