What Do Trees Need to Grow? Wind! So Let’s Talk Metaphors

Metaphors are the topic at Let Grow today. I just learned that the trees planted in Biosphere 2, the kinda kooky human snowglobe in Arizona, grew at an extremely fast rate. And then they died.  Why? Life was just a little too sheltered — literally. Click here for the strange details of what trees (and kids) need.   Photo by Eric Muhr on Unsplash

Yep. There’s research on this. Trees that are staked up when they’re young are more likely to break when they’re older, because it’s the stress of bending in the wind that causes the stiffer, stronger wood to develop… that later prevents them from breaking in a high wind.

This is one of my favorite articles posted! Literally this is what happens to our brains, especially during childhood. The connections that grow and the myelination that occurs around those connections through experience and learning and practice (in this case stress), makes for a stronger brain – both literally and figuratively.
Nature is wise. We humans try to interfere too much with a natural growing process and the result is usually fatal.
During today’s typical “parenting” culture – we are creating weak-minded kids which creates weak-minded adults. And I don’t want to even imagine how our society will be in the future filled with weak-minded adults. The horror!
