Creepy Clown Spotted. That’s It. National News: “Creepy Clown Spotted”

It is with dread and despair that I must tell you that a creepy clown has been spotted wandering around Green Bay, Wisconsin.

And you thought the idea of “Cheese Heads” was already disturbing. (Heads made OF cheese? Encased IN cheese?):

Wisconsin residents are calling police, asking about  a disheveled clown walking through Green Bay  with four black balloons.

But, there’s not much police can do. The clown doesn’t appear armed or dangerous — just really creepy.

“This person is not breaking the law,”  said Captain  Kevin Warych of the  Green Bay Police Department. “He can walk in a clown costume anywhere he wants.”

That’s what wrong with America today! Creepy clowns have too many rights! The excellently reported article by  Ashley May in USA Today via WFAA reports:

The clown, who is being referred to as  Gags — The Green Bay Clown,  was first spotted at 2 a.m. Aug. 1, according to a fan Facebook page that popped up the next day.

Commenter Shannon Mueller said if she met Gags, she would “curl into the fetal position and die of heart exploding from pure terror.”

But not before posting on Instagram, I’d hope.

Anyway, it’s just the teensiest bit possible that Gags is, well, a publicity gag(s). But for what? He’s not saying. He’s just looking at us with those sad, hollow eyes.

It is with that image that I must leave you for the weekend. If you never recover, forgive me. I know that one creepy incident can ruin a person for life. That’s what so many of our laws are based on. – L.

Gags probably needs some type of help. Our country offers precious little of that, but plenty of busybodies will call people who can harass.

Of Maybe Gags needs to use the news as free PR for a job:

There are several other clowns for hire… turn creepy to cash!

    3. Theresa on August 5, 2016 10:05 am

Maybe it time to tell the callers to grow up and stop worrying about the clowns.

But … but … what about the *children*!!??

    5. diane on August 5, 2016 10:37 am

Clowning is an old and important art form in many cultures, although recently trivialized in ours.

    6. Linda on August 5, 2016 10:49 am

      That music!

      Hilarious.

A Stephen King novel comes to mind…..
      (I can’t remember the title.)

Cheese heads < kaaskoppen = the national nickname for us Dutch folks…

(soccer supporters… With every European/World Championship, companies come up with this sort of stuff, incorporating one Dutch cliche or another… 😀 )

LOL! This would be considered just another day in Portland . . .

    10. Eyes Rolling on August 5, 2016 12:44 pm

Well, let’s applaud Captain Kevin Warych of the Green Bay Police Department for recognizing the situation for what it is. And let’s applaud Gags for surfacing today’s hysteria. Would have been more interesting had someone complained their children saw and feared Gags at 2am in the morning and how that would unfold today …

There are creepy clowns all over the country. They are called “politicians”.

      Wendy

      The movie is “It”.
Pennywise the clown played by the awesome Tim Curry.

So it’s okay for Donald Trump but not this guy.

    14. Coasterfreak on August 5, 2016 2:30 pm

I read somewhere that it was possible this guy was simply an actor filming a horror movie on location, having a little fun by walking around town in character. Whether that’s true or not, I have no idea.

Reminded me of a story I read in Fangoria years ago about one of the actors in Return of the Living Dead getting pulled over by police on his way back to his hotel after filming all night because he was covered in fake blood and had a severed head prop in his car. LOL

I have a friend who likes to dress up like a scary clown and go around to various places and have friends take his picture. It’s pretty funny and artistic.

      This clown makes my day.

National clown week is August 1/7 just wearing clown face or costume does not make a clown just a fake badge does not make someone a real cop

    17. Betsy Murgatroyd on August 5, 2016 3:53 pm

I will admit the clown made me feel a shiver. But seriously, why are people caring what a guy does at 2 AM if he’s not hurting anyone?

    18. Bridget on August 5, 2016 4:13 pm

I’m not sure what I’d do if I ran into Gags. Since I have despised clowns for 50 of my 51 years, my reaction would not be pretty. In fact, Gags might need to dial 911. Not that I would really hurt him or anything…but screaming and swearing at him while brandishing mace might give him pause to fear me. Just say NO to clowns. He might be a really nice person, but I just don’t care.

    19. kurt on August 5, 2016 4:41 pm

If not a ‘gag’ perhaps he’s in mourning or clinically depressed. Doesn’t mean he’s a threat to others but he seems to be working something out of his system psychologically. Whatever the symbolism this likely soon will pass. At that late hour he doesn’t much have to worry about being harassed but it should be handled in a delicate manner by public observers. If the police can pin him down they should at least verify his (or her) identity but would agree there’s no need to haul him in, otherwise.

      Can’t sleep, clown’ll eat me…

    21. olympia on August 5, 2016 4:57 pm

We had one of these guys on our street last Halloween. Even worse- the clown was on stilts. My nephew fled the scene in anguished terror and even the adults moved it inside- though it was always clear the guy was just a round the corner neighbor. Later my nephew, 4 at the time, expressed to me his belief that people are born with clown faces; nothing could convince him otherwise. Imagine giving birth to a clown?!!

    22. SanityAnyone? on August 5, 2016 5:15 pm

Regular clowns with multi-colored balloons are bad enough, but I’m not making a federal case of it.

    23. Becks on August 5, 2016 5:45 pm

The film IT has been remade and I think it’s coming out in UK soon coz I saw the evil clown picture recently on social media.

Is there any other kind of clown other than creepy?! I don’t think so.

    24. pentamom on August 5, 2016 8:31 pm

Papilio, Cheese Heads is also what fans of the Green Bay Packers call themselves, because Wisconsin is known for its cheese production also.

Like the art of cheese making, they apparently stole it from the Dutch. 😉

    25. CrazyCatLady on August 6, 2016 12:18 am

that mum, Right on. One of my favorite Simpson’s, along with the Halloween one where they need to set the switch from “evil” to “good” and the Crusty doll shacks up with Barbie with the loose head….

    26. sexhysteria on August 6, 2016 3:57 am

As far as some people are concerned, all clowns are creepy. Who would be interested in making kids laugh except some sick pervert?

    27. Papilio on August 6, 2016 5:58 am

@pentamom: I suspect a large-ish group of Dutch immigrants settled there once upon a time and just took everything with them, nickname, cheese making habits, everything.

Wasn’t there a whole hype around creepy clowns in France a couple years back? I’ve definitely heard this news before.
      …Yep: http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/10/clown-killer-quest-ce-que-cest/382092/

We had a car with bumper sticker “Can’t sleep…Clowns will eat Me”. Donated it to a charity. Hope we didn’t scare anyone too bad! (Our kids thought it was Hilarious )

      Well, he is creepy.

Since this is near where I live, I thought I’d post an update since it’s everywhere in the news here. Apparently it was all for a movie. See the Gags facebook post here: https://www.facebook.com/gagstheclown/posts/1264509100228175:0

Just two days ago my husband and I saw a man aimlessly walking down a large residential street here, sporting nothing more than gold short shorts, a large, red-feathered Mohawk, a flowing gold cape and a smile! Did we call anyone? Nope! We just looked at each other and said, “God Bless New Orleans, Darlin’!” We really love our characters down here. <3

    32. John B. on August 9, 2016 1:50 pm

I would certainly hope that Gags is a Packer fan!! 😉

    33. Korou on August 12, 2016 5:40 pm

Hmmm. Reminds me of that story about the woman who phoned the police to report a homeless man sleeping on a bench outside their church.
Turned out it was a statue of Jesus!
