Love, Love, Love this video! I had to watch it repeatedly to catch everything. I love BNL of course they saw the reality in the crazy fear mongering newscast world we live in. Thank you so much Lenore for finding and sharing this video!

Ever since the first time I heard this song I thought, “This is like the theme song for Free Range Kids!” (Confession: I’m a huge BNL fan.)

I haven’t laughed that hard in ages. My 11 year old and I just watched it three times. So much going on, and all amazingly funny!

Reminds me of the old joke about the New York Times headline about the end of the world:

“World Ends Tonight: Women and Minorities to be Hardest Hit”

Interesting point of pop music trivia:

BNL is actually continuing a distinctly contrarian and gutsy Canadian tradition with that offering. In 1987, a Montreal pop group called The Box released their song “Ordinary People” which openly ridiculed Cold War hysteria. It served as a shocking counterweight to Sting’s 1985 song “Russia”, which in contrast, was a downright terrifying anti-war commentary that made us all fear that we were going to be nuked the very next day.

Sting said, “In Europe and America, there’s a growing feeling of hysteria…” to which The Box defiantly replied, “…and it don’t matter”, bookended by a melodic bridge that was an unflattering parody of (gulp!) the American national anthem.

And which artist’s perception was actually more reflective of reality? Well, the Berlin Wall would fall just two years after The Box’s release, and the rest is history.
